WHAT MAKES THIS TOUR UNIQUE?

The only tour to travel to and from Ancient Ostia by train, making this one of the more affordable Ancient Ostia tour available.

At Ancient Ostia you can touch, climb and play! Most areas not off limits so you can really get 'inside' the ruins.

If you don't have time to make it to Pompeii, Ostia Antica offers a taste of an Ancient Roman town that's just as good if not better.

Relive Ancient Rome with us on a journey to Ostia Antica! Visit this once lively harbor town founded in the 4th century BC. Ancient Ostia is commonly referred to as “The Better Pompeii” due to the astonishing preservation of its buildings. You will stroll through ancient taverns, baths, apartments, groceries and theatres – and their present condition so strikingly exceeds that of the Roman Forum, Imperial Forum and Pompeii, that it seems a misnomer to call them ‘ruins’.

Here it’s easy to let your imagination fly and feel like you’ve been transported back in time -- in this once bustling Roman harbor town the isolated ruins reveal no sign of the modern world so you’ll have a truly authentic experience! Walk the main street, the Decumanus Maximus, while your tour guide regales you with fascinating stories of the past. The Roman statues lining the walkways are in such perfect condition you’ll feel as though you are walking amongst the ancient Romans themselves! You’ll even be enticed to take a dip in the Baths of Neptune, which are crowned by an impressively intact mosaic of the sea god being drawn by a four horse chariot. And if you are a theatre fan, you will be astounded by Ancient Ostia’s amphitheatre –take your place in the stands as 3,500 ancient Roman spectators once did back in 12 BC when it was first constructed. Then feel free to relax for a moment with a friend on the communal forica – or toilettes just as the Romans did!

This unique tour of Ancient Ostia departs Rome by local train and you will be whisked on a brisk 30 minute ride through the western Roman countryside. Once you arrive in Ostia Antica your enthusiastic English speaking guide will reveal the extraordinary and eccentric past of this beautiful ancient town.

At the end of the tour clients will have the option to remain at Ancient Ostia, explore the city of Ostia or even explore the nearby beach. The tour includes the train ticket back to Rome and clients can choose to return with the guide at the conclusion of the tour or head back on their own.

Don’t miss the chance to experience the “Better Pompeii” on our tour of Ancient Ostia & Train Trip from Rome.

Massimo is just a delight, he is very energetic and quite entertaining plus very knowledgable of the area and history. This was a great tour, nice to get away form the busy streets of Rome, to a quite and breezy step into the past.

Rachel made the tour! She was extremely knowledgeable and had a bright and sunny disposition. We took her Vatican Museum tour and knew we would like her to be our guide again. We had several tours and she was by far the best. I would highly recommend Rachel to anyone visiting Rome

Massimo has a wonderful sense of humor, a intensive knowledge of the subject matter and a genuine interest in ensuring his clients have a good experience. This was a very enjoyable morning for us. We are not "tour" people but will use your company next time we go to Rome and wish to do something on your initerary. Thank you!! Nancy and Rob

I just wanted to let you know that I booked 5 tours while visiting Rome from 9-16 June, for myself and my friend who accompanied me. 2 out of the 5 were your tours--Ancient Rome Colosseo with Angelo; and Antica Ostia with Massimo. They were, far and away, the very best out of the 5. Had I known about your company ahead of time (I booked my tours via a central agency) I would have booked ALL my tours via your company. Angelo was superb--very passionate about the subject, very knowledgeable, and professional, yet personable as well. Very enjoyable. Massimo was equally knowledgeable, and it was obvious that he loves Antica Ostia as a site, the history, the time period, etc. He was also very personable and professional as well. Very enjoyable. The two of them were the two best tour guides we had while in Rome and its surroundings. I'd use your company again and will recommend them to anyone I know going to Rome. Thank you,
