What makes this tour unique?
Our Colosseum Night Tour visits the Roman Colosseum after the crowds have gone home, venturing into the underground level and arena floor - areas usually closed to the public.
Delve into the history of Ancient Rome on our guided tour of the Roman Forum, as appreciated from a bird’s eye view at Campidoglio.
With groups of only 25 people or less, your after-hours tour will be intimate, your experience of the Colosseum quite unlike any other visit and your expert, English-speaking guide easy to interact with.
The 2014 season has ended, and the 2015 running dates for this tour haven't been loaded yet. Please contact customer care if you would like to be added to the waitlist. Otherwise, please check back in the coming weeks.
Avoid the Crowds: Colosseum at Night
Avoid the crowds on our Colosseum Night Tour, visiting this iconic sight after the tour groups and visitors have gone home. As day gives way to night we visit the Roman Colosseum and the Colosseum underground, seeing them in a new light, as an ancient structure filled with more shadows than shuffling feet, where the shady history of this spectacular arena can truly be appreciated.
Campidoglio and Roman Forum
Our tour starts with the Campidoglio – the beautiful piazza designed by Michelangelo, whose curved surface resembles the face of an egg. Only meters away we’ll find a little-known vantage point overlooking the Roman Forum (closed at this hour). As the light fades, your expert, English-speaking guide will talk you through the heart of Rome’s historic center – pointing out temples, arches and the sanctuary of Ancient Rome’s famous Vestal Virgins.
On your way down the hill, your guide will point out Trajan’s Market & Column among other ruins. Then it’s on to the highlight of our tour – the Colosseum.
See the Colosseum Without the Crowds
At this time of night the Colosseum is virtually empty, so your experience here as your guide explains the history and characters that make it so fascinating, will be a rare one. We’ll wander the arena floor from where you’ll understand the magnitude of Ancient Rome’s foremost amphitheater and take a Colosseum underground tour, treading the tunnels that gladiators and beasts walked before being hoisted onto the arena floor via trap doors. Few visitors ever get to visit the Colosseum underground, and fewer still see it at night, making this peaceful, slightly spooky visit even more special.
Less than 25 People on the Tour
Our Colosseum Night Tour travels in small, intimate groups of 25 people or less, preserving the peace of the evening. Join us on this rare tour to experience the darker side of Rome’s most famous sight – we promise it will be a night to remember.
*On this tour, some of the venues or parts of the venue may be subject to last-minute, unpredictable closures. When this occurs, we are happy to offer customers an extended tour in keeping with the advertised total length of the tour.
